Intercessions for Seventh Sunday of Easter -Sunday after Ascension –17th May 2026

Almighty God, may our prayers ascend to you just as Jesus Christ, your son, was taken up to heaven.  As we celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus let it inspire in us feelings of joy and hope rather than fear and separation as we await the coming of the Holy Spirit.

(Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Everlasting God  we pray for our Bishops, Robert and Andrew, and all Church Leaders; for all the clergy, readers and laity who serve this Chaplaincy giving thanks that it is now fully staffed.  May the Lord bless our Chaplaincy Team and guide them in their work as we move forward together to live the Gospel in the Costa Blanca.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God, we pray for our troubled world its peoples and their leaders. We pray for those caught up in war, and violence, and hatred; especially the innocent victims of these evils and those who are abused because of Christ. May peace abound and righteousness flourish, that we may vanquish injustice and wrong and that the suffering won’t last forever.

(Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Father God, we pray for all the people that we encounter in our daily lives.  Help us to recognise Christ in one another however stressed and tired they may be. We ask that you help us to recognise the risen Christ in the face of someone we meet today and give us an opportunity to brighten their day with a smile or a word.

(Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God, we pray for all those in need; for those who are filled with guilt; who are broken-hearted; who are confused and afraid; or saddened because a relationship has broken down. We pray for all suffering from illness, particularly those requesting our prayers and give joyful thanks for those on the road to recovery.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful God, we pray for all who have died; especially those who encouraged us in our faith by their example. As we pray for them, may they in turn continue to pray for us that we may stay true to our faith and give the same kind of example ourselves to others.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Faithful God, as we go out into the coming week make us mindful that we should constantly pray for your world and your people just as Jesus, your son, prayed for his disciple before returning to you.

Merciful Father: Accept these prayers for the sake of your son Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen

Intercessions for The Day of Pentecost – 24th May 2026

Mighty God, as we are gathered together here in hope and in faith, we ask you to minister to our needs. Send the Holy Spirit to fill the hearts of your faithful people and kindle in them the fire of your love.

(Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Holy God, we pray for our church leaders, that they will be guided in their ministry by the influence of the Holy Spirit and that the Church, in the power of the Spirit, may make the Gospel understandable to people of every race, language, and culture. That the Holy Spirit of Peace may unite and reconcile the peoples and nations of the earth, bringing an end to war, hatred, and discrimination.

(Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Faithful God, we pray for our Chaplaincy communities, that each of us will be open to the opportunities to give of our individual talents enabling each church group to flourish as a witness to the "One Body" of the church. We pray that each baptized Christian may develop more fully his or her response to all the gifts which the Spirit bestows for the service of the Body of Christ,

(Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Father God we pray for your world and its peoples with all their needs, questions and longings.  So often we struggle to understand the reasons behind acts of terrorism; and yet we know that in the midst of such events your love is shown in the acts of bravery, selflessness and compassion which followed. We pray for all who suffer in such dreadful circumstances and for those who are tasked with rescue, providing the medical and community support and, eventually, in the long task of reconstruction.

(Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Loving God, we pray for all those who are sick; guide them and strengthen them through their illness. We pray also for those who care for the sick, those engaged in the caring professions and for family members who look after loved ones and especially for children who care for parents.

(Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Merciful God,  pray for all those who have died: give them a place at your banquet in heaven. May the Holy Spirit, who purifies us of sin and raises the dead, bring all our departed loved ones into the fullness of your presence.

(Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Everlasting God, on this Day of Pentecost, we rejoice in the wonderful gift of your Spirit. Send him again into our hearts, into our lives, and into our world.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Yours in Christ

Rev’d Steve Foster

We have been asked by The Archbishops of Canterbury and York to continue to pray for Ukraine:

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

We write to you as the world is in turmoil following recent events in Eastern Europe

I am sure that you will agree that the horrific and unprovoked attack on Ukraine is an act of great evil

Now, more than ever, we need to place our trust in Jesus Christ, as we remember that God is not the author of confusion but of peace; and so I urge you to pray for a ceasefire, a withdrawal of Russian forces and for peace to prevail

Pray for the innocent – the women, men and children who are displaced, whose lives are disrupted, and who live in fear of the atrocities of war

Pray for those with power – that they may make a resolute and public decision to never use force, to actively work for peace and seek peaceful solutions to dispute and disagreement

Pray that there may be a recognition of common and shared humanity and God’s promise of flourishing life for all people

The Bishop in Europe has asked us to join them in prayer for the chaplaincy in Kyiv and the churches that serve Ukraine

At this time of great uncertainty, we place our hope and trust in God, whose love never fails. Lord, have mercy
